South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane following mounting allegations of corruption and misconduct related to the appointment of Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) board members. The move came after intense pressure from the Democratic Alliance (DA), which threatened to withhold support for the crucial Appropriation Bill unless Nkabane was removed. Parliament found that the panel Nkabane claimed to use for SETA appointments was fictitious, and she is now under criminal investigation for fraud and misleading Parliament. The DA and other opposition parties have welcomed her removal as a step toward accountability and cleaner governance. Buti Manamela has been appointed as the new Minister of Higher Education and Training, clearing the way for the budget to pass and signaling a renewed focus on tackling corruption.
