The Congress of the People (COPE) is a political party in South Africa, established in 2008 by former members of the African National Congress (ANC). The formation of COPE was a direct result of dissatisfaction and factional splits within the ANC, particularly after the controversial ousting of then-President Thabo Mbeki. The founders of COPE, including prominent figures such as Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa, aimed to create a political alternative that would embody the principles of democracy, accountability, and integrity, which they felt were being eroded in the ANC.

Very little can be done for a politician’s trust to be regained unless proven innocent or showing full remorse, however there will then always be better politicians to rely on
